Welcome to Tampere in 2 - 5 September 2001! Outcomes and methods of research and practice. In 2001, it is the turn of the Finnish Ergonomics Society to host the annual NES Congress. Besides Ergonomics researchers and practitioners from the Nordic countries we have the pleasure of extending a warm welcome to ergonomists from other European countries too. The goal is to strengthen the networks and communication between all European ergonomists. Therefore, the language of the Congress is English. The Congress theme ”Promotion of Health through Ergonomic Working and Living Conditions - Outcomes and methods of research and practice” deals with very topical and important phenomena of life today: how to improve work and competence and design better products and systems in order to help young and elderly people to maintain and use all their capabilities in changing events throughout the lifespan. Relevant topics include: Education, training and learning, policies and organizational systems, promotion of health at the workplace, gerontechnology, as well as various methodological aspects of ergonomics. With it´s 190 000 inhabitants, Tampere is the third largest city in Finland. The town was founded in 1779 by Gustav III, King of Sweden and Finland on the banks of the Tammerkoski-falls. Today Tampere is a city of commerce, technology, arts, science and also an important centre for education. Tampere was the venue of the very successful 1997 Congress. The University is located very convenient in the center of the city and offers good lecture and meeting facilities for a great variety of presentations. Each day there will be both scientific and more practically orientated sessions. Les mer om NES 2001 på konferansens egen hjemmeside.
