Work ability is a modern concept of human abilities to work. It emphasizes the needs to adjust the work better with the changing resources of the worker. This topic has gained increasing attention due to the continuous changing of working life and the ageing of the work force. A better adjustment between human resources and work demands during ageing can reduce sickness absence rates, work disability risks and early retirement of workers. An important tool for measuring work ability is the Work Ability Index (WAI) method that has been used worlwide to describe the work ability and its changes during working career. WAI is a tool both for occupational health practice and research. The 1 st International Symposium on Work Ability invites all collaborators from various countries together. The aims of the symposium are:
- to report the status of Work Ability by age, gender and job in
